Rails and Ridges

$1,000.00

36x24 acrylic on canvas

One Sunday morning this spring I ventured out into the industrial expanse northwest of Salt Lake City. My car was loaded with my easel and paints. I was in search of "that spot" where the mountains tower above the city skyline. I had painted it from a photo, but I wanted it plein-air.

After some wandering through areas that may or may not be open to the public, I found my way to the railroad tracks. A lone train sat on the east tracks, with an overgrown hillock bisecting the track to the west. I ventured upon the hill, and was treated to an unmatched view. Industry, residential, woods, towering commercial buildings, and endless mountains above it all.

I unfolded my easel and began to lay down some paint.
